Commemoration of St. Benedict
SBenedictusAb

From his feast in the Roman Breviary (March 21).

Hic vir despiciens mundum, et terrena triumphans, divitias caelo condidit ore et manu. THIS MAN, despising the world and triumphing over earthly things, heaped up riches riches in heaven by word and deed.
V. Iustum deduxit Dominus per vias rectas.
R. Et ostendit illi regnum Dei.
V. Our Lord hath guided the just by right ways.
R. And hath shewed him the kingdom of God.
Amen. May the prayers of the holy Abbot Benedict commend us to Thee, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that what we cannot obtain by our own merits, we may obtain through his patronage. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
